Soprano Sandra Lopez is a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. She was previously a winner of the Palm Beach Opera Competition, a National Finalist in the McAllister Awards, and was an Educational Grant Recipient with The George London Foundation. In 1998 she was the Grand Prize winner in the College Division of the Florida Grand Opera Competition. Performances in the 2007 -- 2008 season will find Ms. Lopez at The Fort Worth Opera as Liu in Turandot, Opera på Skäret in the title role of Tosca, soloist in Handel's Messiah for performances on Christmas Eve in Manger Square, Bethlehem, Israel. Further performances include Beethoven's Ninth Symphony for performances in Beijing and Shanghai, China as well as several recitals throughout the United States and Micaela with San Antonio Opera in September 2008, a role she will reprise with Fort Worth Opera in 2009. Her 2006 -- 2007 season began with a gala performance with the Florida Grand Opera, singing Mimi in Act II of La Bohéme. She was also heard as Mimi in concert performances with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and sang Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly with Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra. Miss Lopez' 2005-2006 season began with performances of Frasquita in the Met performances of Carmen. She then traveled to Fort Worth to sing Mimi in their production of La Bohème. She sang the role of Micaela in Carmen with the Florida Grand Opera and made her debut in the role of Cio-Cio San in a new production of Madama Butterfly with Berkshire Opera Company. Miss Lopez also sang the Fourth Maid in Elektra at the Tanglewood Music Festival under the baton of Maestro James Levine. In the 2004-2005 season Miss Lopez performed with Andrea Bocelli on tour, followed by holiday concerts with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. She then returned to the Metropolitan Opera to sing Tebaldo in Don Carlo. Sandra Lopez began the 2003-2004 season in concert at the University of Miami. She continued to Nashville Opera, where she sang her first performances of Nedda in Pagliacci. She then returned to Palm Beach Opera for Micaela in Carmen. Her busy summer included an aria concert for Opera Pacific, performances of Nedda with Portland Opera Repertory Theatre, and her debut as Tatiana in Eugene Onegin in semi-staged performances with the Fort Worth Symphony. She spent most of the 2002-2003 season with the Metropolitan Opera, where her roles included Catherine in A View from the Bridge, Frasquita in Carmen, Fourth Maid in Elektra, and a Flowermaiden in Parsifal. She also performed in Elektra and Parsifal under the baton of Maestro James Levine at the Salzburg and Verbier Festivals. She sang Violetta in La Traviata with Opera North in New Hampshire. In summer 2002 she sang her first performances of Marguerite in Faust with Portland Opera Repertory Theatre. Her other stage credits include Violetta in Valencia, Spain, Adina in L'elisir d'amore with El Paso Opera, and Adele in Die Fledermaus with Palm Beach Opera. She has performed both Gilda and Micaela with Opera North. With the University of Miami Opera she has sung the title role in Manon, Nannetta in Falstaff, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Sandra Lopez' orchestral repertoire includes Gounod's Saint Cecilia Mass, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5. She has performed with the Greensboro Symphony, the Miami Chamber Symphony, the Manchester Music Festival, and the New Choral Society.
