Nov 22, 2008 - Good point who does certify the certifiers? On Wall Street we had Moody's certify big business and give them credit rankings; unfortunately they were also found to be dishonest. If a corporation is ranked AAA then they got whatever loan they wanted from the banking industry but if they were bad then they couldn't get a dime and investors shied away. Moody's is one of the culprits involved in this Wall St. fiasco. They were the gold standard of ranking corporations but even they were crooks

Nov 22, 2008 - The Bayh-Dole act is bullshit, but only because it provides public funds to private companies and individuals for profit.Scientific researchers should be rewarded monetarily for their discoveries. Even the article you cite acknowledges that privately funded science is essential to scientific progress.

Nov 22, 2008 - We need a democratic democracy and not a democratic republic. A form of government like the Swiss where the will of the people decide. Direct Democracy is the only way to combat these elected and unelected officials that are being bought.

Nov 22, 2008 - The problem is the US is too weak or scared to question or regulate the corporations for fear of being branded a communist. Also the corps have too much power and influence in Washington. We hear all this BS from republicans about less government less regulation, but where has it got you? The economy is screwed and the businesses are getting a huge welfare benefit.

Nov 22, 2008 - Commerce and corporations are turning everything into shit what they touch. Natural resources, art, science and our lives. It produces more and more garbage for no benefit at all. In Europe we are dumping 20 million cell-phones every year (4000 tons of scarce material) for no other reason than obeying the marketing machinery. Commerce is the threat to men. Its the thief taking away our lives in a soft way.

Nov 22, 2008 - Thanks you guys. Your doing a great job. keep up the good work. I already knew some of this but its always nice to remember. I even learned something new about the "scandal" in the 70s with the defense department. Too bad its going in the healthcare industry too. My mom doesnt have health insurance but she looks great for her age (50) and thank god she hasn't had any serious medical problems for yrs and neither have I. Thanks again! P.S. where's the link for the JAMA article?
YourOasis97 Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - some would disagree with you on that, though. but im pretty sure most americans want corporations out. xD
YourOasis97 Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - so its just 'business' to kill off everyone slowly with meds? i call that murder, not business. it may not be "real" science, but to corporations it is, and even if it isnt they dont care. $ is what makes the world go around, unfortunately
YourOasis97 Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - not just decapitate the CEOs and head of the FDA but anyone associated with them who can not be trusted. b/c even if you cut off their heads, someone else can usurp them.
YourOasis97 Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - but if there is oversight of the govt over healthcare industries, which sounds good, wouldn't it then be called socialism/communism?
YourOasis97 Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - even if global warming is non-existant or not caused by humans, i still think/firmly believe we should protect/conserve our ecosystems, animals, plant life, etc so that they wont be extinct/hurt the "circle of life."
