Short lived eighties band from Melbourne Australia. They were not that well known, even here in Oz. Call me superficial, but I love the name of this band. (However it appears the name was later appropriated by Virgil Donati for his band in the late nineties). Serious Young Insects were a trio, comprising Pete Farnan(guitar), Mick Vallance (bass) and Mark White (drums). All three sang, alternated on lead vocal, and songs featured plenty of harmonies. They punched out a full sound for just three people. I bought the single of 'Trouble Understanding Words', on which this video is based. It was recorded in June 1981 in Richmond, Melbourne, and is sung presumably by Pete Farnan, the writer of the song (he went on to join successful Aussie band Boom Crash Opera). I don't think their album 'Housebreaking' has been released on CD. I have done a slideshow for this song. Most of it came from their clip for 'Be Patient' which was somewhat difficult as Mark the drummer had the lead vocal and the lion's share of the video time. There are virtually no images on the net of this band. Apparently they played this song on Countdown. Would love to see it on You Tube if anyone has it. Comments are invited.
