Many of the nearly 20,000 people who braved the cold and wind on Oct. 2 to hear Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama speak hoped they were witnessing history in the making. Obama's stop at Michigan States campus was highlighted by a speech that touched on voter registration and education.Much of Obama's speech focused on the financial crisis and its impact on students. He offered a two-part solution based on education and strengthening the middle class. This allowed Obama to speak about the nature of the American dream and his rise to national prominence. At the end of the nearly half-hour speech Obama asked the crow to believe in the future.A little more than a month later, the youth vote answered resoundingly by supporting Obama 2-to-1 over Republican candidate John McCain.
