Aug 12, 2008 - I think people lose a great opportunity to grow when they consider their depression as solely biochemical in origin. No illness is solely physical or psychological in origin. The body and mind are so closely linked as to form a whole. Modern medicine has wrongly divorced them.

Aug 25, 2008 - Been there many times and I totally agree. Of course there can be real world situations that trigger the onset of a major depressive episode but just as you can't will yourself out of heart disease, diabetes, or cancer, people that suffer from mental illness need medical treatment as well. It really is as simple as that. The brain is an organ too and it can malfunction just like any other.

Aug 7, 2008 - i totally agree that some mental illness has biological causes. my sister had a really happy life at age 17 and yet she plunged into the most awful depression & psychosis for no reason. it took many years for her to make a recovery.
