Jul 26, 2008 - How do you feel about utilization of Maxi Pads as Trauma Bandages & Quik-Clot in place of tourniquets? (Personally I carry both)

pranachimana Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Pine tree sap is an excellent antiseptic and coagullant from what i've read if your ever in that situation where you have a tournakit on, it would be a good idea to get a bunch of sap really quickly (if you can) and just layer it over that cut. maybe get your sewing kit and start stitchin away if you got one, so you can start slowly losening that tournakit. Excellent video man. Your son's a little trekker aint he. Take care

saturateu Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - what about releasing the tourniquet periodically to allow some blood flow?

LooseLatitude Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - Honey is the same.

Jul 26, 2008 - what about breaks?

wildernessoutfitters Says:

Jul 26, 2008 - This is covered in the Bandages section with splints.

wildernessoutfitters Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - very interesting

courperationX Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - Loosening a tourniquet can dislodge current blod clots causing enough further blood loss to cause shock.

Josiah531 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - Good information. You definitely need to know SELF first aid and once again I applaud your efforts to inform people.I would point out that you needed to cover applying a pressure bandage. It is cross between a tourniquet and a normal bandage. It doesn't cut off blood flow but holds some pressure on a wound. Excellent for deeper cuts that you were describing. Good job. 5 *'s

pranachimana Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - thats awesome man i didn't know that

rstora01 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - what about applying heat to a bleeding wound to cauterize it? Can it stop bleeding and provide partial sterilisation?

wildernessoutfitters Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - You can do this but remember that if you dont have a stron constitution this can cause Shock and we are talking you are alone!

THREEFLOORSDOWN1 Says:

Jul 28, 2008 - that black tactical doesn't look as heavy or have aluminum on it. ive herd of peeing on some wounds to wash themout if needed. pee is smewhat sterile i think, but has some toxicity? is this a case where this might be needed your not around water? i'm not tryin to be grose!!!

Jul 30, 2008 - 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

grymmtymm Says:

Aug 2, 2008 - huaman urine is sterile enough to drink RIGHT after it exits the body, but after it sits it becomes contaminated with amonia.

THREEFLOORSDOWN1 Says:

Aug 2, 2008 - lol..i wouldn't wanna drink it unless i had to!so your saying that it will staralize or is OK to use to washout a dirty wound if there is no water around. water treated with iodine would be good for starilazation of a wound

grymmtymm Says:

Aug 2, 2008 - don't quote me, but it would be ok to use, not that it will sterilize. but i sure as hell wouldn't use it unless i absolutely, positively had to. yeah, iodined water would be real good for that.

MrGatoMan1 Says:

Aug 4, 2008 - Tourniquets MUST be placed above the forearm and above the calf. This is because the major veins/arteries pass between the two bones found here. I.E. the Bracheal and Femoral Arteries. So in order for a tourniquet to work in the forearm or the calf one or both of those bones have to be broken so that pressure can be placed on the vein/artery.

wildernessoutfitters Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - That is correct.

TheGreatGambinie Says:

Aug 10, 2008 - in the most extreme cases where you have and severe infections on an exteremity you can use maggots to clean out the dead and infected skin but leave the healthy skin. this will help in a life threating situation.
