Nov 19, 2008 - hi! i've been watching your wonderful videos for a while now and I'm so happy you shared this fondant vs gumpaste vid! it's helping me sooooooooooooo much! i tried marshmallow fondant for the first time a while ago and I agree with you about how unpredictable it is. I followed the recipe exactly but found myself adding more pow. sugar and it still wasn't stable. but anyways, i'm heading out to michaels right now! thanks again for the vids! i enjoy them very much and look forward to seeing more:)

Nov 19, 2008 - Hi..I had the same problem... i didnt know exactly what went wrong, it's like I needed more shortening... then it turned into this wierd lump of something else...haha... then i tried again and this time i used the stand mixer...it was a lot like store bought fondant BUT it still had the hard lumps of powdered sugar when I was rolling the fondant . Thanks again :)

Nov 19, 2008 - Your cakes are beautiful that you've been doing. I am inspired and tried my first MM fondant cake and it turned out great, it only made me want to make more. I wanted to do a loopy bow for the top but ended up making a regular bow because the fondant was too soft. I guess I needed to use the gumpaste. Is gumpaste edible? I also thought gumpaste was something you added to the fondant and not something you used on it's own. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Nov 19, 2008 - Thank you sooo much for clarifying. I always thought that fondant would hold it's shape more because that's what they use in cake decorating books. No wonder I had difficulty. I've heard that gumpaste doesn't taste as good though - but I guess no one's really going to eat a cake topper! By the way, you're really fortunate in N. America to have so many choices of cake decorating brands and stores.
