Olekranon is the most intricate and enveloping of Olek's full-room installations. Replete with the otherworldly crochet and balloon sculpture work that has become her signature, Olekranon's interior is further saturated with mock-crochet patterns on walls and the live presence of a man whose identity is obscured by a body suit fashioned out of rubber balloons. It's hard to feel the presence of rage or sadness when you are sharing air and space with twisted balloon animals. Save for the moment your eye catches the crocheted sickle, in a room that can otherwise only be described as a wonderland. The best way to experience Olekranon by far is to visit it in person at the The Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida where it has lived since May 2008 and will continue to do so until August 16th. Latecomers and southernly challenged can enjoy this short 2 min film by Andrew Hawthorne.
